Hanukkah Private Chef: Boston Suburbs and Providence

A Hanukkah private chef dinner in Brookline, Newton, Sharon, or Providence runs at your family’s pace, in your home, on whichever night of the eight you choose. Candle-lighting at the start. Latkes fresh in the pan. Brisket cooked low and slow.

Hanukkah dinners run differently from any other holiday I cook. The pace is slower. The table is multi-generational. The menu leans traditional. There’s a candle-lighting at the start of service that sets the tone for the whole evening.

I’m Paige Gilbert, owner and chef at Partum Events. Hanukkah is a regular part of my December calendar across the Boston suburbs (Brookline, Newton, Sharon, Wellesley, Needham, Weston, Dover) and in Providence and the East Side. Most bookings are eight to fourteen guests, family style.

This is not a holiday catering tray. Each menu is custom, cooked on-site in your kitchen, served family style.

Why Hanukkah Belongs at Home

Hanukkah doesn’t translate to a restaurant. The candle-lighting at the start of service requires the family’s own menorah on the family’s own table. The latkes need to be served minutes after they come out of the pan, not held warm under a heat lamp.

The brisket has to be the family’s brisket, cooked the way the grandmother cooks it. The applesauce from scratch. The sufganiyot filled and dusted moments before they’re served.

Most Hanukkah bookings I take are first-night dinners. The first night sets the tone for the eight days.

How a Hanukkah Night Runs

I arrive 2.5 hours before service. Kitchen setup begins. Brisket already low-and-slow if started earlier, or pulled out to come up to temperature. Latke prep started.

Family arrives. Cocktail hour. Wine open. Candle-lighting happens at the family’s pace, with the family’s own menorah.

Service paces course by course. Latkes come out fresh through the meal, going to the table in waves. Sufganiyot are filled and dusted just before they’re served.

A Sample Hanukkah Menu

Hanukkah menus lean traditional. Tell me how the family cooks brisket (date-honey glaze, traditional onion-and-broth braise, the grandmother’s recipe) and I cook it that way. The sides honor family tradition.

Sample menu only. Yours is built around the family traditions.

Every Hanukkah dinner is built around the family’s traditions. Tell me what’s expected on the table and I cook it. Sour cream or dairy alongside latkes is served separately on the table, kept away from the brisket course, so kosher-style families can keep dairy and meat apart.

What’s Actually Included

Everything. Menu consultation, sourcing from local suppliers, all ingredients, kitchen setup, cooking, service, and cleanup. You don’t touch a dish.

I bring equipment if your kitchen doesn’t have what we need. I work in rental homes, condos, and old houses with quirky kitchens all the time, so an unfamiliar kitchen doesn’t faze me. I’ll do a quick walkthrough beforehand to know what I’m working with.

Service stays out of the way. I plate and bring courses to the table. Between courses I’m in the kitchen, not parked at the table. During dessert, I’m mostly out of sight unless you want something else.

Wine, spirits, and any specialty rentals are discussed upfront. I bring mixers, citrus, fresh herbs, garnishes, and glassware if your kitchen is short.

Where I Drive on Hanukkah

The Hanukkah service area covers Boston proper and the suburbs with the highest Jewish populations: Brookline, Newton, Sharon, Wellesley, Needham, Weston, Dover. I also cook Hanukkah dinners in Providence, the East Side, Barrington, and the rest of Rhode Island.

Hanukkah falls anywhere from late November to late December. Dates shift year to year. The bookings I take are for the first night most often, but later nights work too.

Full pricing logic lives in the cost guide.

When to Book

Hanukkah dates fill four to six weeks ahead of the first night. The first night is the most-booked. Later nights are usually easier to secure.

If you want a Hanukkah dinner during the same week as Christmas Eve (which happens some years), reach out earlier. December calendar tightens fast.

Multi-Night Hanukkah Bookings

Some repeat clients book multiple nights of Hanukkah. The first night gets the formal dinner. Other nights can be lighter meal-prep drops if you want hot meals without a five-course service.

Tell me how the family does the eight nights, and I build the calendar around it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you cook Hanukkah dinners?

Yes. Hanukkah is part of the regular December calendar. Most bookings are first-night dinners with eight to fourteen guests, family style.

How far in advance should I book Hanukkah?

Four to six weeks ahead of the first night. The first night fills earliest. Later nights are usually easier.

Can you cook around our family’s brisket recipe?

Yes. Tell me how the family cooks brisket (date-honey glaze, traditional onion-and-broth braise, the grandmother’s recipe) and I cook it that way.

Can you make latkes fresh through the meal?

Yes. Latkes get made fresh in the pan during the meal, not held warm in advance. They go to the table in waves.

Can you handle kosher requirements?

I cook kosher-style and respect dairy/meat separation when requested. For strict kashrut requirements with a certified-kosher kitchen or supervised sourcing, the kitchen setup needs to be discussed in advance.

What about dietary restrictions and allergies?

Yes. Every menu is built around the people coming. Gluten free, dairy free, nut allergies, fully vegetarian, fully plant-based.

Can you make sufganiyot from scratch?

Yes. Sufganiyot are filled and dusted moments before they’re served, not made hours in advance.

Can you handle a multi-generational table with kids?

Yes. Hanukkah is one of the most multi-generational dinners of the year. I build the menu around the range of ages and preferences.

What about wine and cocktails?

You provide the wine and the spirits. I bring mixers, citrus, fresh herbs, garnishes, and glassware if your home is short.

Do you cook Hanukkah in Providence and the East Side?

Yes. Providence and the East Side are part of the regular Hanukkah service area.

Can you cook for a smaller family Hanukkah of four to six?

Yes. Smaller Hanukkah dinners often run more intimate, with the same traditional menu sized for the smaller table.

Will the kitchen be left clean before bedtime?

Yes. I clean as I go through service. The kitchen is wiped down, dishes loaded, trash out, before I leave.

How do I actually book?

Send a note through the contact page with the date, location, guest count, family traditions, and any allergies.
